[Monday, 23 October 2017:] The Board of Directors of the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has today placed their support behind the YES campaign in the Australian Marriage Equality Plebiscite which is taking place across the country by postal vote currently and with only a few weeks to go encourages all those within the travel industry who may not yet have voted to do so.
The travel industry is a diverse industry that celebrates equality within its workforce and activities when and wherever it can. It is fitting therefore that the AFTA Board have resolved to provide this support for the YES campaign.
“Everyone in the Australian Travel Industry is an individual and the Board respects the right of every Australian to have their say and vote as they wish in this Marriage Equality Plebiscite” Said Jayson Westbury Chief Executive.
“The AFTA Board felt that it was important to make a statement of support for the YES Vote and notes that this is a unanimous decision of the Directors and not necessarily the opinion of all of the members of AFTA as they are all free to have their own views and opinions on this matter” said Westbury.
“Diversity and equality are both very important in a modern society and Australia is a modern society. As such marriage equality is of equal importance in this modern Australia which is why the Board is making this statement” said Westbury.
People working in the travel industry across all the various areas of the industry are encouraged to take part in the plebiscite as the vote is taken. AFTA acknowledges fully that each and every person is free to vote as they wish and to form their own opinion of that vote.
The Marriage Equality Plebiscite will take place via a national postal vote and will close on November 7th 2017.
